Getting to grips with Gripsure production
7th December 2016
Gripsure’s apprentice Aaron joined the team in September and has made a great start. Aaron has cracked on with getting to grips with the production basics and is progressing well with his apprenticeship in performing manufacturing.
After my induction, getting my uniform and receiving my health and safety training, it was time to start work. I met the rest of the team at Gripsure before joining my production colleagues and getting stuck in with learning the basics of shaking down. Over the past few months I have be trained on gunning the boards to insert the non slip infills, stoning the boards with the non slip aggregate, putting orders together and banding them ready to go out for delivery. In the up and coming months I will be learning how to cut the timber boards as well as quality management.
The production team have been a great laugh and very supportive which has made me more confident and helped me to develop my newly learned skills in manufacturing non slip decking.
Gripsure have made me feel really welcome and a highlight for me so far has been the team building day where I learnt more about Gripsure’s history and plans for the future, as well as spending the afternoon clay pigeon shooting. I look forward to progressing further with the company.

Gripsure shortlisted for major manufacturing award
21st October 2016
Gripsure has been shortlisted for the SME Manufacturing Company of the Year prize in the Insider Made in the South West awards.
The award is for SME manufacturing companies based in the South West that have demonstrated excellence and made an outstanding contribution to the manufacturing sector in the region in the last 12 months.
Over the last year, Gripsure has secured its products into two of the UK’s biggest DIY retailers, Homebase and Jewson. This double success marks a step change for the firm and a significant opportunity to grow. The Homebase deal enabled the Cornish firm to enter the mainstream consumer market, while the expansion into Jewson is supporting Gripsure’s growing sales to trade customers.
Gripsure, now the UK’s leading manufacturer of non slip decking, continues to maintain a reputation for innovation. Earlier this year the company launched its first decking tiles, bringing its total number of anti slip timber decking products to seven.
Taking place at a black tie dinner in Bristol on 2nd November, the prestigious awards showcase manufacturing from across the South West and give local companies the opportunity to celebrate their ongoing commitment to world-class quality and excellence. The winners of this year’s awards will automatically go through to the grand final Made in the UK, where the best of British manufacturing will be celebrated.
Gripsure Managing Director Mike Nicholson said: “We are really proud to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award, which positions us as a key player in the South West’s manufacturing sector. This is a very exciting period for Gripsure: the last year has seen us get our product into two national retail outlets and we have expanded our range, all while maintaining our commitment to quality and excellent customer service. Being recognised in this way is a great boost for our team who are working really hard to help Gripsure grow and succeed.”
The other businesses shortlisted for the SME Manufacturing Company of the Year award are Future Advanced Manufacture, Cubik Innovation, Blue Badge Company, Woodwarm Stoves and Marshfield Bakery.
The shortlist was decided by a judging panel chaired by South West Business Insider editor Graham Southorn. The judges were Simon Howes, managing director, SWMAS; John Rubidge, head of innovation in services at the Department for International Trade South West; Nick Hurst, executive chairman, Artemis Optical; and Jim Davison, region director, South of England, EFF.
Graham Southorn said: “It was really difficult to decide on the shortlist this year, as the standard of entries was so high. We had an enjoyable debate on the judging day, and many congratulations to all those shortlisted.”
Gripsure team away day
14th October 2016
Gripsure’s annual team away day was this year held at Knightor Winery, one of the regions up and coming English vineyards. The morning started with a review of the highlights of 2015-16, along with welcoming new members of the team. Top of the agenda, as always, was the health and safety of all employees. Gripsure has an amazing safety record, with no lost time accidents or incidents since the company was formed, but that is no reason for complacency. So this year saw the introduction of Safety Sam, their new health and safety mascot who will be the force for taking the company safety culture to the highest level. The morning then moved on to discuss future plans in sales, marketing, production and research & development.
In the afternoon, with work completed the team headed outdoors for a bit of clay pigeon shooting. There was a bit of healthy competition as pairs took it in turns to face the flying targets. It was a close call but the sharp shooter of the afternoon was Jed who took home the trophy for most shots on target.
Gripsure anti slip decking now available at Homebase
18th July 2016
Gripsure decking is now available in 100 Homebase stores across the UK as well as on homebase.co.uk.
Gripsure, the UK’s leading anti-slip decking company, produces decking made from FSC certified Scandinavian redwood. These non-slip decking boards feature two aggregate inserts, which ensure they don’t get slippery, even in wet or icy weather. Thanks to its innovative design, the decking has achieved an excellent slip resistant rating in safety tests.
With customers all over the country and overseas, including Jamie Oliver, the National Trust and Alton Towers, Gripsure produces a range of anti-slip timber decking boards. The company’s expansion over the past 10 years has mainly been the result of growing its commercial client base.
Gripsure Managing Director Mike Nicholson said: “Having our products available at Homebase is a fantastic opportunity for Gripsure. While our commercial customers continue to grow, both in the UK and overseas, this represents an opportunity for us to expand into the mainstream consumer market.
“The decking market has really taken off over the last 30 years, but people are now more aware of the dangers of surface water, algae, fallen leaves and ice, all of which can make decking lethally slippery. Getting our product into Homebase will encourage more people to see the potential of anti-slip decking to offer both style and safety.”
