The entrance to WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre has been enhanced with new timber decking that combines safety and natural style. The bird reserve’s 76-metre-long Swan Lake boardwalk has been renovated with anti slip timber decking provided by Gripsure.
250,000 visitors each year enter the 120-acre Gloucestershire nature reserve by treading the boardwalk, which takes them over a lake that is favoured by swans. With Gripsure decking already installed in other areas of the park, the centre contacted Gripsure, the UK’s leading anti slip decking company, when the Swan Lake boardwalk decking needed replacing.
Visitors to WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre can see a wide range of birds, including ducks, geese, swans, birds of prey and common cranes. For the Swan Lake boardwalk restoration, WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre used Gripsure Pro Classic, a Scandinavian Redwood timber, with three non slip aggregate strips.
Nathan Dixon said: “As a 364-day-a-year attraction we welcome visitors in all seasons so having decking that stays safe in wet and icy weather is vital. The boardwalk is located at the entrance to the centre, and we often see children running excitedly across it, eager to start their visit so it’s important to have a surface that is non slip.
“As a conservation wildlife centre, we are committed to using natural or recycled products where possible so Gripsure’s timber decking is an ideal choice. The Gripsure team were extremely helpful right from the initial contact and were very quick and flexible throughout.”
